Sri Lanka’s State-owned mobile telco operator, Mobitel extended its lead over Dialog Axiata in mobile network experience while Hutch emerge as the most improved mobile telco operator in Q42020.

Holding the lion’s share of Opensignal ‘s awards in the quarter, Mobitel won four out of seven award categories outright. The four awards include Games Experience, Voice App Experience and Download Speed Experience and Video Experience which was gained from Airtel.

Opensignal is regarded to be the independent global consumer mobile experience analyzer.

Mobitel also tied with Dialog for 4G Availability awards, while leading Dialog in the category.

In the period, User’s on Hutch’s network saw the greatest improvement of 8.8 percent in 4G availability compared to a year back. The download speeds experienced by users on Hutch network rose by over 20 percent during the period.

Further, Mobitel became the first operator in the country to have a Download Speed Experience score above 10 Mbps since February 2020.

“This increase also extended Mobitel’s lead over its closest rival Dialog — from 1.1 Mbps to 2.1 Mbps — as our Dialog users saw an incremental change of 0.7 Mbps (8.6%) with speeds averaging 8.6 Mbps. That said, the most significant improvement, in percentage terms, was seen by our Hutch users — an increase of 0.8 Mbps (20.8%) to score 4.6 Mbps,” Opensignal highlighted in the report.

In 4G coverage category, Mobitel continued to close In the gap with Dialog while Hutch continued to improved in the category.

The Video Experience on Dialog network further declined in Q42020.However, Dialog continued to improve on upload speed experience extending its lead.
