Over 2.3 billion rupees plus taxes are expected to be collected from five foreign exchange counters located in the departure terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayaka, Sri Lanka.

Following a call for bids from licensed commercial banks, licensed special banks, and foreign exchange companies authorized by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, contracts to run five currency counters at the BIA departure terminal were given to Bank of Ceylon, Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank, and Thomas Cook Lanka.

A government announcement states that the counter allotment is broken down as follows:

-Bank of Ceylon, Counter No. 25, for Rs. 798.028 million plus taxes
-Sampath Bank Counter No. 02 for Rs. 633.662 million in taxes

-Commercial Bank counter number 04 for Rs. 381.364 million plus taxes
-Thomas Cook Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. at Counter No. 10 for Rs. 299.064 million plus taxes
-Hatton National Bank at Counter No. 11 for Rs. 225.689 million plus taxes

According to Minister Vijitha Herath, the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the installation of currency exchange counters for the five institutions for a three-year period on the advice of the Standing Procurement Committee and the Technical Evaluation Committee.
