In a high-level meeting today, New president of Sri Lanka Hon Anura Kumara Dissanayake and officials discussed critical measures to ensure the nation’s energy security and accelerate development projects under the Ministry of Power and Energy. Chief among the points raised was the need to maintain adequate fuel reserves to guarantee uninterrupted public supply. This was emphasized as a top priority to avoid potential disruptions.
The meeting also focused on the swift allocation of 800 solar panels, received as part of Indian aid, to the Ministry of Power. A plan to distribute these panels efficiently is to be developed, aimed at bolstering the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.
Discussions also underscored the urgency of advancing projects funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and foreign loans. A committee is to be formed to fast-track approvals of foreign-funded projects within a three-month timeframe.
Further, rural development projects were highlighted as crucial, with calls for a rapid establishment of mechanisms to ensure that funds reach villages swiftly.
The meeting was attended by Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, Professor Udayanga Hemapala, and other senior officials.
