According to the Export Development Board, 20 international investors traveled to Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee and Hambantota ports this week to investigate the possibility of making maritime investments. The investors came from India, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives, France, Japan, Thailand, the United States, and Cambodia.

According to a statement from EDB, the trips were intended to highlight Sri Lanka’s potential as a center for maritime investments and its expanding blue economy.

The delegation looked at potential in a number of industries, including as shipbuilding, bunkering, engineering services, vessel repair, marina development, and related offshore services.

“Investors also looked into opportunities for starting new businesses or forming joint ventures with already-existing local companies.”

The EDB’s Voyage Sri Lanka 2024 initiative included the visit.
