Remittances in 1Q 2026 up by record of 27% to $ 2.29 Bn

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau states that the amount of remittances sent by migrant workers to the country during the first quarter of this year has increased by 26.5% compared to the first quarter of last year. From January to March 2026, the country received remittances of US $ 2.29billion. The amount of remittances received during the first 3 months of 2025 was $ 1,815 million. (1.81 billion) In January 2026, $ 751 million, $ 729 million in February and $ 815 million in March were received.

Meanwhile, 62,145 workers have gone abroad for work from January to the end of March this year.
