National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 and Int’l Conference on November 6

Today, sustainability is no longer simply an option, but necessity. Around the world, industries are rapidly transforming to meet  new environmental and sustainability expectations, Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development told  the National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 and the 4th International Conference on Resource Efficiency & Circular Economy launch held in Colombo on May 29, 2026.

She said “consumers, investors, international markets and and global supply chains increasingly value products and services that follow responsible  and sustainable procedures. Therefore, it is important that Sri Lankan industries continue  to innovate, improve resource efficiency and adapt sustainable business practices to remain  competitive in the global economy. At the same time, Sri Lanka is also placing increasing  attention on strengthening environmental governance and promotion of more sustainable  industrial practices.”

Jayasundara commended NCPC Sri Lanka for its continued leadership in promoting sustainable industrial development and encouraged greater participation from industries across the country in embracing resource-efficient and environmentally responsible practices. These two major events are organised by the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) and the closing date for applications for the awards is July 15. The two events are scheduled to be held in Cinnamon Life on November 6.

Gamini Gunasekera, Chairman of NCPC Sri Lanka, addressing the gathering emphasized the growing importance of sustainable production and consumption in Today’s increasingly competitive global environment. He highlighted the need for industries to enhance productivity while minimizing environmental impacts and strengthening resilience against climate-related challenges.

During the event,  Samantha Kumarasena, Chief Executive Officer of NCPC Sri Lanka, presented an overview of the upcoming 4th International Conference on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy, which will serve as a global platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, policy dialogue, and collaboration among experts, industries, researchers, and development organizations working towards a circular economy transition.

A briefing on the National Cleaner Production Awards 2026 was delivered by Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, Chairman of the Panel of Judges, who outlined the award categories, evaluation criteria, and the importance of recognizing organizations that demonstrate excellence in cleaner production, environmental stewardship, and sustainable business practices.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of certification awards under two nationally recognized certification schemes operated by NCPC Sri Lanka.
