According to his office, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized growing government revenue through important sectors like tourism and energy with the assistance of investors during a meeting with the head of the World Bank Group.
In order to discuss Sri Lanka’s future development priorities, President Dissanayake and Ajay Banga, the president of the World Bank Group (WBG), met virtually on Wednesday, 27.
President Dissanayake stressed the government’s emphasis on poverty reduction during the meeting, especially in rural areas, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
Additionally, he emphasized the necessity of boosting government revenue via digitalization and by fortifying important industries including tourism, the maritime sector, state-owned companies (SOEs), and the energy sector, with an emphasis on promoting investor involvement in power generation.
According to the statement, the World Bank Group President emphasized his dedication to fostering job creation and tackling important development issues.
Providing Sri Lanka with financial and technical support to implement creative solutions in areas like people’s education, healthcare, social protection, and economic success is one of these priorities.
“Economic policy, finance, competitiveness, investments, institutional development, and poverty alleviation are also areas where the World Bank provides assistance.”
“Agriculture, water management, climate action, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, infrastructure, and digital transformation are also being advanced.”
The President also talked about initiatives to support economic growth in Sri Lanka’s north and east, with a focus on enhancing healthcare, education, and human resource development.
In order to address the changing demands of the labor market in these areas, President Dissanayake also underlined the necessity of enhancing vocational education in tandem with academic education.
