A Sri Lankan Household Spends Nearly a Quarter of Average Monthly Expenditure on One Full Tank of Petrol

Following the latest fuel price increase, a full tank (45 Liters) of Petrol (Octane 92) now accounts for almost 1/4th of average monthly household expenditure in Sri Lanka as measured by the Household Income & Expenditure Survey (2019), according to Publicfinance.com.

Sri Lanka records the highest among the neighboring countries in South and South-East Asia.

Sri Lanka’s fuel prices increased rapidly within the last few months following the free float of the Rupee exchange rate, even though the Government representatives stated that Sri Lanka still had the lowest fuel prices in the region.
