Sri Lanka imported $351.9 million worth of telecommunication devices up to November 2021

Sri Lanka imported $351.9 million worth of telecommunication devices (mainly mobiles and telephones) in the first eleven months of 2021 indicating a 52.3 percent increase over the corresponding period of 2020.

In November, import expenditure on telecommunication devices rose by 38.2 percent Year-on-Year basis to $28.2 million ahead of the holiday season.

In the second quarter of 2021, the country’s phone penetration increased by 5.3 percent Year-on-Year basis to 144.2 phones per every 100 persons reaching pre-covid levels. Especially, Wireless Local Loop Access enlbaled by ADSL routers grew by 50.7 percent to 1.6 million connections due to high-demand for internet access.
