Issuing a brief statement today, Sri Lanka’s utility regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Chairman, Janaka Ratnayake announced the filing of a petition with the supreme court.

“PUCSL filled FR petition against responsible government institutions for violating the rights of electricity consumers,” he said.

The PUCSL is seeking a court order to direct the Ministry of Energy to supply sufficient fuel for power generation without disruptions.

Due to fuel shortage, the CEB shut down 165MW Kelanitissa Combined Cycle yesterday with 900MW Norochcholai coal power plant remain to be the last running thermal power plant. This has further worsened the power cuts in the country, which account for nearly half a day now.
