Colombo Bourse closed in the red zone on Wednesday after consecutive gains during the last three trading sessions as a selling spree emerged, First Capital Research said.

Following the long weekend, the market opened today on an upbeat note but soon plunged steeply. Subsequently, the index set on a gradual recovery and continued on a sideways drift before closing for the day at 7,598 losing 26 points.

However, the S&P SL20 index recorded a marginal gain of 2 points although ASPI closed in the red. Turnover of LKR 1.1Bn was led by a joint contribution of 62% from the Transportation sector and Diversified Financials sector. Foreign investors remained net buyers while recording low participation.
